Freshman Allison Cappellino was named the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week, Department of Athletics officials
announced. The libero was also named the Molten Patriot League
Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Cappellino started her first two games as an Eagle this weekend
and led the team in digs in both matches. The Penfield, N.Y. native
tallied 15 digs on Friday night in American’s loss to
Georgetown, adding two service aces and three assists. She returned
on Saturday to post a career-high 19 digs with two assists and one
service ace in the Eagles’ 3-0 win over George Mason.
Cappellino was named to the D.C. Volleyball Challenge
All-Tournament Team.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend when they travel
to New Haven, Conn. for the Yale Classic. American will first face
Stony Brook on Friday, August 31 at 5 p.m. before taking on Texas
A&M at 11 a.m. and host Yale at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
