Senior forward Vlad Moldoveanu of the men’s
basketball team has been selected as the American University
Student Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced Monday. The senior led the Eagles to
two Patriot League victories over the last week after averaging
29.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg.
In Wednesday's win over Navy, Moldoveanu led all scorers with 28
points while grabbing nine rebounds. He shot 7-of-13 from the
floor, 4-of-7 from three and 10-of-11 from the line.
He followed that performance with a spectacular 30-point effort
in American's 2OT win at Lafayette in the regular season finale. He
also registered eight rebounds while shooting 10-21 from the
field.
This is Moldoveanu's third AU Student-Athlete of the Week honor
this season. He was selected as the Patriot League Player of the
Week a conference-record eight times this season.
Moldoveanu, a First Team All-Patriot League pick for the second
straight season, has led the Eagles to the No. 2 seed in the
upcoming Patriot League Tournament, which will begin Wednesday
against Colgate in Bender Arena.
