Seniors Ryan Flores and Ganbayar Sanjaa have been selected as
the American University Student-Athletes of the Week presented by
GEICO, Department of Athletics officials have announced. Flores and
Sanjaa were both honored as All-Americans for the second straight
season at last week’s NCAA Championships in St. Louis,
Mo.
Flores and Sanjaa became the 15th and 16th in program history to
be named All-Americans. The duo also becomes the fifth and sixth
student-athletes in AU history to be multiple All-Americans,
joining Kyle Borshoff (2009, 10), Mike Cannon (2008, 09, 10), Steve
Fittery (2010, 11), and Josh Glenn (2006, 07, 08). This marks the
fifth straight year and sixth in the last seven that AU has crowned
multiple All-Americans.
Flores finished the tournament with four pins -- matching a
tournament-high -- en route to a sixth-place finish in the
heavyweight division. He wraps up the season with a 21-3 record,
which included 17 falls. Flores completes his two seasons at
American with a 47-9 record, which includes 27 pins, the
second-most in program history. He is a two-time All-American and a
three-time EIWA Champion.
Sanjaa also finished in sixth place at 157 lbs. to culminate a
25-6 season. The two-time All-American ends his two years at AU
with a 51-14 mark with 11 pins and six major decisions.
