Sophomore guard Alexis Dobbs of the American
University women’s basketball team has been named the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced Monday.
Dobbs led the Eagles to two double-digit wins last week, as she
averaged 15.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, and 1.5 spg. She was 55
percent (11-for-20) from the field, including an even 50 percent
(8-of-16) from three-point range.
Dobbs scored a career-best and game-high 21 points on a
personal-best six made three-pointers in Wednesday’s win at
second-place Lehigh. Five of her threes came in the second half as
AU opened up a 27-point lead at one point late in the period.
AU’s 17-point win at Lehigh is its worst home conference loss
since an 84-67 defeat at the hands of Holy Cross back in 2000.
Additionally, it marks the Mountain Hawks' worst defeat to a
conference foe since a 64-37 setback at Bucknell on January 24,
2007.
The Berea, Ohio, native also scored in double figures in
AU’s 20-point win over Holy Cross on Saturday, the
Crusaders’ worst conference loss of the season. She tallied
10 points on 4-of-7 shooting along with four assists.
Dobbs and the Eagles are 10-0 in Patriot League play, becoming
the first Patriot League team to start with 10 straight conference
wins in seven years. AU will look to make it 11-0 when it travels
to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy on Wednesday, February 15.
