Lisa Strack of the American University
women’s basketball team has been honored as the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials have announced.
Strack, a senior from Langhorne, Pa., led the Eagles to a pair
of 26-point wins last week over Bucknell and Lafayette as they
improved to a perfect 7-0 in Patriot League play. In the two games,
the Preseason All-Patriot League pick averaged 14.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg,
5.0 apg, and 5.0 spg as she shot 57.9 percent from the field.
In Wednesday’s 71-45 victory over Bucknell, Strack tallied
11 points, five rebounds, and four steals. She was a productive
4-of-8 from the field. Then on Saturday in AU’s 80-54 triumph
against Lafayette, she registered a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11
shooting along with seven assists and six steals. Her seven helpers
were a season-best and one shy of her career-high while her six
steals matched a personal-best.
"As a coach, it is a dream. To have a player like Lisa with her
talent and ability, and it is never about her. It is always about
the team," remarked Head Coach Matt Corkery following
Saturday’s game. "Lisa didn't need many shots tonight to get
18 and she didn't turn it over once along with seven assists. And
then she threw in six steals for good measure, which is a heck of a
defensive game."
Strack and the Eagles will return to action this Saturday,
February 4 when they host Colgate at 2 p.m.
