Sophomore swimmer Matt
Wurm has been selected as the AU Student-Athlete of
the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics officials have
announced.
Wurm last weekend won each of his three events in
American’s victories over Georgetown and VMI. In his first
race, the Sudbury, Mass. native won the 200 free in 1:44.00, a
margin of more than three seconds over the field. He followed up
the impressive performance with victories in the 100 free (48.42)
and 500 free (4:42.59). Each of the three wins were
season-bests.
Saturday’s performance gives Wurm seven victories so far
this season, five of which have come in the last three meets. The
sophomore is looking to improve upon a fantastic freshman campaign
in which he was named men’s swimming and diving’s
co-rookie of the year.
Wurm and the Eagles will return to action on Saturday, January
21 at 1 p.m. when they face Army, George Mason, and Old
Dominion.
