Freshman Melissa Parker of the American
University diving team has been honored as the AU Student-Athlete
of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics officials
announced Monday.
Parker captured the three-meter diving event title in a
quad-meet against Bucknell, Lafayette, and host Navy at Annapolis,
Md. on Saturday afternoon. She earned a career-best score of 256.90
points to win the competition. With this, she became the first
Eagle diver in history to win an event at this meet. Her effort was
also good for the third-best score in the event in program
history.
The freshman also excelled in the one-meter event, putting up a
score of 223.95, which placed her in fourth place at the meet. She
finished just six points from second place.
On October 17, Parker was named the Patriot League Female Diver
of the Week after recording the fourth-best scores in AU history in
both the one and three meter diving events.
