American University men’s soccer sophomore Tyler Collins has been selected as the
AU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Deparment of
Athletics officials announced Monday. Collins registered a goal in
each of AU’s matches last week as he now has four scores on
the season.
Collins, who hails from Norwalk, Conn., Collins tied the match
at one against No. 13 Georgetown on Tuesday. He scored on a
breakaway up the left side as he beat a Georgetown defender. Then
on Saturday in American’s 3-0 victory over Army, Collins
converted a high shot from 20 yards out to extend the Eagles’
advantage to two goals in the 75th minute.
Collins has now registered goals in three of the last five
matches and four total on the campaign. He is currently one goal
behind Alassane Kane for the team lead. Additionally, Collins has
started the last four games as the Eagles are 3-1 during the
stretch. For the season, Collins has appeared in all 13 matches
with six starts.
The Eagles will face UAB in a midweek non-conference contest in
Birmingham, Ala., before hosting Lafayette on Saturday, October 15
at 1 p.m. in a key Patriot League match.
