Senior forward Vlad Moldoveanu of the men’s
basketball team has been named the American University Student
Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics
officials announced Monday. The senior led the Eagles with 21
points in last Monday’s 69-64 win over Mount St. Mary's, and
also scored a game-high 23 points at No. 6 Pittsburgh on
Wednesday.
Moldoveanu’s 18 second-half points against The Mount
brought the Eagles back from a four-point halftime deficit. He was
5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Four of his made free throws which were made in the final 13
seconds.
Following Monday’s performance, Moldoveanu scored five of
the Eagle’s first six points against No. 6 Pittsburgh before
finishing the game with a game-high 23 points, 14 of which came in
the second half. He finished 9-of-21 from the field against the
Panthers.
The men’s basketball team returns to the floor again on
December 29-30 when they take part in the Cable Car Classic in
Santa Clara, Calif. American will first face Fordham on Wednesday
the 29th at 11:15 p.m. ET and will then take on either host Santa
Clara or Delaware on Thursday the 30th
