Lacrosse Falls to Liberty on the Road

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Reagan Murdoch scored five goals and Becca Frank had four, but it wasn't enough for the American University lacrosse team against the Liberty Flames on Saturday night. The Eagles fell 22-13, and move to 3-4 on the season. 

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Murdoch's five goals is a season-high and ties a single-game career high. She now leads the team with 17 on the season. 
  • With her second straight four-assist game and one goal, Maddy Spratt reached 150 career points. The senior attacker has been excellent distributing the ball this season, with a team-leading 12 assists.
  • Frank had her most productive day of the season, with four goals and two assists. She now has 10 and 10 on the season. 
  • Jenna Walls led the defensive efforts for AU, collecting six grounballs and causing four turnovers. 
  • Caleigh Forti had another 15-save game, her second of the season and fourth game in double-figures. She has 76 on the season, which puts her atop the Patriot League. 
  • The Eagles caused 10 of 11 Liberty turnovers, but hurt themselves by comitting a total 26 turnovers. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles traded punches with the Flames in the first quarter, with Reagan Murdoch and Becca Frank scoring two goals apiece to tie the game 4-4 early. With 2:51 left in the quarter, Taiva Reinertson netted two goals to give the home side a 6-4 lead. 
  • Murdoch kept firing away and scored three more goals in the second quarter, but Liberty answered with a a five-goal run that lasted until the 10:15 mark of the third quarter to make the score 15-7. 
  • Alyssa Appuzo stopped the Liberty run with a goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third, but Liberty answered again with a 5-1 run to end the quarter. 
  • Maddy Spratt, Becca Frank, and Kellie Linehan scored three straight goals for the Eagles at the start fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to cut in to the Liberty lead. Annabelle Jackson added one more goal to get AU to 13 on the board.

The Eagles will head farther south to North Carolina for a matchup with UNC Charlotte on Tuesday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m.
