Strong Response from Women's Soccer Leads to Tie in Season Opener at George Washington

WASHINGTON – The American University women's soccer team responded quickly to a first half goal from George Washington, posting a strong defensive second half, ending in a 1-1 tie in the season-opening game at GW Soccer Field. Sophomore Bella Vozar scored the game-tying goal near the end of the first half.

  • Vozar's goal in the 45th minute was the first goal of her career. Senior Olivia Simmons' assist was her first since the 2022 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Bella Miller had the first shot of the game for American just three minutes into the game, setting the tone early for the Eagles.
  • In the 34th minute, American had a pair of corner kicks that yielded a strong attempt on goal from an Avery Klingensmith header.
  • George Washington opened up scoring on a 40th minute goal from Selah Koleth.
  • American quickly answered, as a perfect cross from Simmons set up Vozar with the game-tying goal in the 45th minute, to keep the score tied at halftime.
