Dominant Second Half Lifts Lacrosse Past Bucknell on Senior Day

WASHINGTON – Behind a dominant 6-0 run in the third quarter, American University lacrosse came away with a 12-9 victory over Bucknell to close out its 2024 home slate.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Attacker Annabelle Jackson led the Eagles with four goals on eight shots. Sophomores Kellie LinehanReagan Murdoch and junior Alyssa Apuzzo each had two goals as well.  
  • Attacker Becca Frank and midfielder Hannah Spease tied for the team lead with two assists apiece. Spease also led the team with six draw controls and scored a goal in the effort.  
  • As a team, American outshot Bucknell 25-24. Out of American's 25 shots, 21 were on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Murdoch got the Eagles off to a hot start, putting the Eagles on the board just 34 seconds into the contest.
  • Bucknell responded, but Jackson got her first of the game not long after to give American a 2-1 edge a little over halfway into the first quarter.
  • The Bison wen on a 3-0 run, however, to give them their first lead of the game and a 4-2 lead with 1:38 left in the first.
  • Murdoch got her second with just two seconds left on the clock to cut the deficit to one following the first frame.
  • The teams traded goals to start the second frame, with Jackson getting her second goal of the game, before Bucknell went on another 3-0 run to open up an 8-4 lead with 5:43 left in the half.
  • Kellie Linehan would get on the board for the Eagles with 2:45 left, and the first half would come to a close with American down 8-5.
  • The Eagles came out swarming out of the half. In quick succession, American scored three goals in just a 1:12 span, with Jackson's third tying the game at eight with 11:40 left in the third.
  • American refused to let up. Linehan's second of the game, Jackson's fourth, and Apuzzo's second added to the Eagle's lead. American would end the quarter up 11-8, outscoring Bucknell 6-0 in the quarter and having gone from trailing three to being up three in the span of a quarter.
  • American would be content to slow the pace down to start the fourth quarter, playing to keep possession and wind down the clock. The Eagle's defense finally conceded its first goal of the half with 3:48 left in the game, with the team still maintaining a 11-9 lead.
  • Murdoch secured her third goal of the game to ice it for the Eagles, with American proving victorious 12-9 on the sunny afternoon at Jacobs Complex.
NEXT UP
American will finish its regular season schedule on the road, traveling to Boston to take on the Terriers on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m. before concluding Patriot League play Thursday, April 26 at 6 p.m. when it heads to Annapolis to play Navy.
