SYKESVILLE, Md. - Two bouts went to extra time at 149 and 125, but no Eagles were able to prevail in a shutout loss for American University wrestling against the University of Maryland at South Carroll High School on Saturday night. The Terps officially won by a score of 37 to minus 1 due to a point lost by both teams for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Notable
- Redshirt freshman Gage Owen was competing at his former school and had a strong hometown crowd behind him.
- Owen took No. 26 Kal Miller to an extra period at 149 pounds, tied 2-2, but lost in a tiebreaker after neither wrestler scored in sudden victory.
- Redshirt freshman Coen Bainey also went to extra time at 125 pounds against true freshman Tyler Garvin, but a takedown for Garvin sealed a 10-7 win.
- At 141 pounds, senior Jack Maida scored a third-period takedown, but the deficit was too great and he lost 13-7 to Dario Lemus.
- Grad student Will Jarrell kept it close against No. 14 Seth Nevills at heavyweight, but lost 6-2.
