LEWISBURG, Pa. - American University wrestling struggled to keep pace with Bucknell in an EIWA road dual, as the Eagles posted only two wins and lost 31-9 to the Bison on Sunday afternoon. After being away from their home mat for over a month, the Eagles will return to Bender Arena next weekend.
Notable
- Shamil Kalmatov got the dual off to a strong start for American at 125 pounds, pinning Grayson McLellan in just a minute and 34 seconds to put six points on the board.
- At 133, Maximilian Leete came up against #17 Kurt Phipps and took the early lead, but ultimately lost by 5-3 decision.
- With the teams tied at 6-6, Jack Nies gave the lead back to AU with an 8-3 decision over Aidan Davis at 149 pounds, as Nies continued wrestling down a weight class from his original 157.\
- The final six bouts all went the way of the Bison, including four by extra points.
