Twenty Event Wins Give Swim & Dive a Sweep of Catholic; Mimi Watts Sets 100 Free Pool Record

WASHINGTON - Dominating from start to finish, the American University men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept both duals against visiting Catholic University at Frailey Pool. The Eagles took wins in 20 of 24 events, including the women's 100 freestyle in which senior Mimi Watts broke a pool record that stood for nearly 25 years.

Notable
  • Watts went 51.56 to win the 100 free, besting the previous pool record of 52.23 set by Casey Legler January of 1999. It's her fourth pool record at AU, as she also holds them in the 50 free, 100 fly and 200 fly.
  • The win was one of three on the day for Watts, who was also part of victories in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Joining her for the 200 medley to open the meet were junior Amaya Tomma, sophomore Grace Netz and sophomore Isabel McGovern as the foursome placed first in 1:49.21.
  • The men's 200 medley relay team of Aidan Delehanty, Will Deitch, Caleb Farris and Nick Buckley went 1:33.99 to get a win in their first event of the dual.
  • American also posted the top times in both 200 free relays to close out the day. The women's relay foursome included Watts, McGovern, sophomore Dylan Moulton and freshman Lian Jeong Engle, while the men won with the foursome of Buckley, freshman Connor Florence, Delehanty and Farris.
  • Junior Peyton Thurman won both the women's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while junior Griffin Batt took the win in both events for the men.
  • Batt's score of 265.05 on the 1-meter was his career best and ranks fourth all-time in program history, while Thurman's score of 247.87 on the 1-meter was also a PR and ranks sixth all-time in program history.
  • On the 3-meter, Batt once again achieved a career-high score, with his total of 279.97 that ranks sixth all-time at AU.
  • Freshman Fiona McMahon picked up two individual wins, taking first in the women's 200 free in 2:01.23 and first in the women's 500 free in 5:25.69.
