Women’s Soccer Falls to Loyola Maryland in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON – Despite an early goal from senior Abby Dillon, American University women's soccer fell, 2-1, to the Loyola University Greyhounds on Wednesday to close out its regular season slate. American now awaits its 2023 postseason fate as the rest of the league completes its regular season later in the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Greyhounds put the pressure on the Eagles early, taking two shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes, but big saves from junior goalkeeper Julia Kato kept the score tied.
  • Dillon got the Eagles on the board first in the 21st minute.
  • American could not hold the lead for long as Loyola Maryland responded with a goal of its own less than a minute later to even the score, 1-1.
  • The Greyhounds added one more goal before halftime to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first 45 minutes of action.
  • American fought in the second half, holding the Greyhounds to just three shots, but the Eagles effort fell just short to find the equalizer as the Greyhounds took the 2-1 victory.
