Women's Soccer Opens Home Patriot League Slate Wednesday Against Bucknell

WASHINGTON – American University women's soccer is set to host the Bucknell University Bison on Wednesday, September 21 for a 4 p.m. game at Reeves. The Eagles enter Wednesday game with a 1-1-5 record and are coming off a 1-1 tie against Holy Cross on Saturday to open up Patriot League play.

  • American enters Wednesday's game with a 1-1-5 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in Patriot League play.
  • They are recently coming off a 1-1 tie against Holy Cross on Saturday to open up their 2022 Patriot League slate. Sophomore Brooke Steel netted the Eagles' goal in the game in the 15th minute. The goal was her first of the season. 
  • The Eagles' have tied their last four games. They have not lost since their season opener at Elon on August 18.
  • All of the Eagles' goals so far this season have come from a different student-athletes. Senior Fisayo Iluyomade, junior Izzy Kadzban, senior Cailin Panacek, sophomore Brooke Steel, and senior Alysa Vazquez have all found the back of the net for the Eagles this season.
  • Sophomore Olivia Simmons has recorded the Eagles' two assists this season.  
  • Wednesday's game is just the Eagles' second game at Reeves this season. They are set for back-to-back home games this week as they will welcome Lafayette to Reeves on Sunday afternoon. 
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT BUCKNELL
  • The Bison enter Wednesday's game with a 3-4-1 overall record and an 0-1 mark in Patriot League play.
  • They are recently coming off an 4-0 loss to Navy in Annapolis, Md. on Friday to open up their Patriot League schedule.
  • Bucknell is led by senior Rylee Donaldson who has a team-leading three goals this season. Five other Bison have also found the back of the net so far this season. Sophomore Teresa Deda leads the Bison in assists
  • The Bison were last season's Patriot League Champions, beating Boston U. 1-0 in the championship game to capture the program's fifth Patriot League title.
 
SHUTTING OUT THE COMPETITION
  • Sophomore Julia Kato is 45th in the nation in shutouts (3) while the Eagles are 56th in the NCAA in shutout percentage (0.500).
  • She is ranked second in the Patriot League in save percentage (.816) and goals against average (1.00).
