WASHINGTON – The American University lacrosse team tied the game up three times but couldn't keep up with the late push from George Washington on Wednesday and fell to the Colonials, 11-9.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Fifth-year senior Kendall Goldblum had her third hat-trick of the season, while classmate Emma Vinall added a pair of goals alongside freshman Maddie Spratt. Spratt also added two assists for a team-high four points.
- Junior Emma Hare and senior Stefanie Walsh added a goal each.
- Junior Jane Reffelt and Walsh led AU with two caused turnovers each. Junior Sydney Wender and sophomore Jordan Mitchell added two groundballs each.
- Sophomore Helena Morrison got the start in goal and had three saves in 30 minutes before sophomore-transfer Mary Alice Collins took over in the second half, also adding three saves.
- Seven players scored for the Colonials, starting with a hat trick from Amber Germer. Emily Mowbray and Sophia Watkinson added two goals each.
- It was an even match-up between the two teams with AU holding the edge in shots, 24-23. The Eagles also gave up only 12 turnovers to GW's 16 but picked up only nine ground balls while GW grabbed 19.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vinall scored the first goal for the Eagles in the last 29 seconds of the first quarter, trailing 3-1 to end the period.
- A back-and-forth second quarter saw AU with three goals and George Washington with two to tie the game 4-4, but a last-second goal by the Colonials brought the tally to 5-4 to end the first half.
- George Washington was first to board in the third quarter with a 2-1 run until AU responded with a 3-0 run to tie the game 8-8 going into the fourth.
- The Colonials went on a 2-0 run to start the final quarter. Spratt's second goal of the game cut the deficit to 10-9, but GW pulled away with a final goal at the 2:31 mark.
