INSIDE THE SERIES
  • This is the first meeting between the two programs.
  • Marsha Harper faces off against Neil Payne for the first time as a head coach.
  • Payne was Harper's club soccer coach when she played at Real Colorado as a youth player.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • AU had a three-game win streak snapped in a 2-0 loss to Old Dominion on Thursday afternoon. The three-game win streak was the first one for the Eagles since August 2018.
  • Julia Kato was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week after picking up a second straight shutout in the win over George Washington last Sunday.
  • Over the course of four games, she held opponents scoreless for 246 minutes, just shy of the program top five for consecutive shutout minutes (Jen Liese, 270 minutes in 2001). That streak was stopped when ODU got on the board early on Thursday.
  • Jordan Mahony was named PL Defensive Player of the Week after recording her first career assist against GW. She played an integral role in holding GW scoreless, picking up a clutch kick save along the end line in the last two minutes.
  • Other freshmen playing a valuable role for the Eagles include Giuliana Capraro, who has played every minute on defense this season, and Brooke Steel, who scored twice against Delaware State and was the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for her efforts.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ELON
  • Through six games, Elon holds a 3-3 record, with all three wins coming by shutout.
  • Elon was tabbed second in the CAA Preseason Poll with Katie Lowe being selected to the Preseason All-CAA Team. She was named to the All-Rookie Team last season. Carson Jones was named to the honorable mention and was Second Team All-CAA last season.
  • Elon is coming off the first CAA title in program history last spring. The Phoenix finished with a 6-4 record and an appearance in the NCAA First Round.
  • Neil Payne is in his fouth season at the helm of the Elon women's soccer program, gradually improving each season. From his first to second season (2018 to 2019), the Phoenix saw a nine-win improvement. In his third season, he led Elon to a CAA title.
FULL STAFF
  • Coach Harper added two new coaches to her squad for this fall season, rounding out her staff in year two.
  • Matt Freibaum was brought on as an assistant coach to work with the attacking unit, among other duties. He joins AU after two seasons at Wofford.
  • Martina Loncar is serving the team in a volunteer assistant role while she pursues a Master's degree at AU. A four-year letterwinner at Colgate, her experience in the Patriot League will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for the Eagles.
SISTER, SISTER
  • The Mahony sisters are the first siblings to play for AU Women's Soccer since 2000, and just the fourth pair ever.
  • Olivia, a senior, and Jordan, a freshman, played for The Pennington School for one season, although Jordan played only sparingly as a high school freshman.
  • The most heralded sister duo in AU Women's Soccer history is the Pike sisters. Liz holds every scoring record in program history and is in the Cassell Hall of Fame, while Julia is fourth in program history in career assists with 15.
  • Liz played for AU from 1990-93, while Julia was on the team from 1992-96.
YOUTH SOCCER DAY
  • Sunday is Youth Soccer Day for the AU women's soccer program.
  • Autographed team pictures will be handed out to the first 100 kids in attendance, in addition to halftime mini-games and a chance to meet Clawed Z. Eagle.
