WASHINGTON - Junior Alysa Vazquez of American University women's soccer has been named the first GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2021-22 season. The Eagles played a pair of contests in their first week of competition, facing William & Mary at home and James Madison on the road.

Vazquez scored a goal for the Eagles in the 76th minute in their season opener vs. William & Mary to tie the game at 1-1, before AU was ultimately edged 2-1. She finished with three shots in that contest, and posted two more at James Madison on Sunday.

Women's soccer will be back on the road on Thursday, Aug. 26 at Longwood. That will be the second game of a four-game road trip.
