WASHINGTON - For her incredible showing in the first dual meet of the season for American University women's swimming & diving, sophomore
Mimi Watts has been named the
GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 4-10.
Watts set a Reeves Aquatic Center pool record and won all four events in which she competed for AU in a home dual meet against Loyola Maryland on Oct. 9. Her winning time of 23.70 in the 50 freestyle was short of her school record but set a new pool record, besting Leah Breen's time of 23.86 from 2011. Soon after, she swam a personal best in winning the 100 free, with her time of 52.57 ranking 13th among personal bests in program history.
The final individual win for Watts came with a time of 55.86 in the 100 fly, another event in which she currently holds the school record. The foursome of Watts,
Marissa Kleckner,
Mallory Meister and
Eleanor Felton won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.16 which ranks 11th all-time in that event in program history.
The Eagles will be back in action at home on Friday, Oct. 15 against Georgetown for Senior Day at 4 p.m.
