Women's Soccer Opens 2019 With a 2-0 Win at UNC Ashville

ASHVILLE, N.C. — Sophomore Keelin Ferris scored her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute and junior Ryleigh Brown made four saves to give the American University women's soccer team a 2-0 win over UNC Ashville in the season-opener on Friday evening.

Postgame Notes

  • With the win, American starts the season 1-0-0 for the second straight season. Last year, the Eagles defeated Mount St. Mary's 3-0 at Reeves Field.
  • Ferris' first goal is her first collegiate point after playing in 13 games as a freshman.
  • Sophomore Juliana Sailing also recorded her first collegiate points with both assists on AU's goals. 
  • American added its second goal in the 85th minute by senior Charly Slavick.
  • American outshot UNC Ashville 16-7 with nine shots on goal. Senior Samm Francucci and freshman Dori Rizzo each had two shots on target. 
  • Brown made four saves to secure her fourth career shutout and fifth collegiate win.
  • UNC Ashville keeper Courtney O'Malley made seven saves.
