WASHINGTON – The American University women's soccer team kicks off the 2019 season on the road at UNC Ashville on Friday at 6 p.m.
GAME NOTES
Welcome to Ward Circle
American welcomes 10 new freshmen to the roster this season, one of the largest incoming classes for head coach Anabel Hering. The new class features five defenders (Cailynn Adelman, Annemarie Barbour, Natalie Oliver, Sylvie Prepetit, and Lena Provenzano), four midfielders (Ashley Molz, Cailin Panacek, Dori Rizzo and Alysa Vazquez) and one forward (Fisayo Iluyomade).
Trio of Keepers
American returns all three goalkeepers from last season that saw action — seniors Amy Krotine, Morgan Lang and junior Ryleigh Brown. Brown played in 10 of the 17 games with three wins and three shutouts. Lang and Krotine battled through injuries a season ago but came into training camp healthy and ready to secure a spot in the box.
Offensive Threat
The 2019 Eagles return three goal scorers from a season ago in senior Kyanna Alleyne and sophomores Tate Jordan and Toni Williams.
Ninth-Place Prediction
American was selected ninth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll ahead of Lafayette. The Eagles finished with a 2-4-3 mark in PL play.
Home Opener
American will host local foe George Washington on August 28 at 5 p.m.
Senior Day in August
American will honor its eight seniors and one team manager on Aug 31 against VMI. Among the seniors to be honored will be Kyanna Alleyne, Samm Francucci, Amy Krotine, Morgan Lang, Dara Magdaleno, Victoria Mattson, Charly Slavick, Tiffany Zukosky and team manager Dylan Wolfe.
