Callander, Caulfield Earn Weekly Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After victories in both butterfly events at the Navy Invitational last Saturday, American University's Scott Callander was selected Tuesday as the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week.

Teammate Fiona Caulfield, who improved her previous career-best by winning the women's 1-meter diving competition, earned honorable mention from the league office.

Callander, an Eagle junior from McLean, Va., won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.39 seconds and captured the 200 fly in 1:52.36. He also placed ninth in the 50-yard freestyle at the Navy meet, which was contested in the same facility that will host the Patriot League Championships in mid-February.

Caulfield, a senior from Alamo, Calif., scored 264.15 to win the low-board competition at the same meet. She added 15 points to her previous career-best in 1-meter events, coming within a point of an NCAA Zone qualifying standard.

She finished second in the 3-meter competition at 241.70, just ahead of freshman teammate Anna Derrow. Caulfield was the PL Diver of the Week earlier this season.

Lehigh's Sydney Bornstein was the PL Female Swimmer of the Week, while Navy's Bradley Butcher and Casey Sherman of Holy Cross won the diving weekly awards.
