Box Score WASHINGTON — A goal in the 55th minute by George Washington's Alexis Williams halted a solid defensive performance by the American University women's soccer team, as the Colonials defeated the Eagles, 1-0, at Reeves Field on Sunday.
American (1-4) outshot the Colonials, 10-9, and put pressure on the visitors throughout the contest. Ryleigh Brown made three saves and was helped out by her defensive line who came up with a few timely blocks and even saved a ball from going into the net in the first half.
GW's goal came when Tuhina Dasgupta had a wide open opportunity that was fed to Williams at the far post to complete the one-timer.
Toni Williams led the Eagles with two shots on goal.
Miranda Horn finished the game for the Colonials with six saves.
American will host Campbell on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
