Box Score FARMVILLE, Va. — Colleen Vivaldi made 10 saves and Alexandra Taylor recorded two shots on goal, but a failed clear and a bounce off the crossbar pushed Longwood over the American University women's soccer team, 2-0, on Thursday evening.
American (1-4) was outshot 26-7, but Vivaldi put together a solid performance in goal for the Eagles. Her 10 saves, set a new career-best for the junior keeper.
Longwood's Amber Hodges scored seven minutes into regulation after the Eagles missed an attempt to clear a corner kick. The Lancers added an insurance goal in the 81st minute after Janese Quick went around two defenders and fired a shot off the crossbar past Vivaldi.
Taylor finished with two shots for the Eagles. Yari Bradfield and Samm Francucci also recorded a shot on goal.
Longwood keeper Maria Kirby made four saves for the shutout.
American will return to Reeves Field for a Sunday afternoon meeting with local foe George Washington at 2 p.m.
