Terao Tabbed GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week

WASHINGTON – After capturing a fourth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships this past weekend, senior captain David Terao has been chosen as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Terao is the ninth All-American in program history and the first since 2012, as the Eagles have now earned a total of 17 All-America honors.

Terao, who entered the tournament as the 15th-seed at 125 pounds, made an impressive run through his bracket, defeating three top-10 seeds, including second-ranked Joey Dance of Virginia Tech.

After pinning 10th-seed Connor Schram of Stanford in the quarterfinals, Terao suffered his first loss of the tournament in the semifinals, as he dropped a decision to Penn State's Nico Megaludis, the third seed and eventual champion.

Terao moved on to the third-place match with a decision over Northern Iowa's ninth-seeded Dylan Peters. His bout against the top seed, defending champion Nathan Tomasello of Ohio State, proved to be one of the most entertaining of the tournament, with Terao earning a standing ovation despite his 5-3 loss.

Terao, who finished the season with a 29-7 overall record, ends his career as the winningest wrestler in AU history with 130 career victories.
