WASHINGTON – After earning a fourth-place finish at the 53rd-annual Midlands Championships, redshirt senior wrestler Mitchell Wightman has been selected as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week.

A native of Warwick, N.Y., Wightman was the Eagles' top performer at the prestigious Midlands Championships, leading three AU wrestlers who made it onto the podium with a top-eight finish.

Despite entering the tournament as an unseeded competitor at 165 pounds, Wightman posted a 4-2 record over the weekend that included a pair of victories over 11th-ranked Austin Wilson of Nebraska.

Wightman now owns an 11-7 record on the season. He and the rest of the Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 9, when they head to the Pitt Duals to face Brown, Bloomsburg and third-ranked NC State.
