DOVER, DEL. — Alexandra Taylor scored her first collegiate goal to lead the American University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Delaware State on Tuesday evening. 

The win gives AU its third victory of the season heading into Patriot League play on Saturday when they travel to Colgate. 

Taylor's tally came late in the first half with an assist by Marley Jennings. American maintained possession in the Delaware State zone after Jennings served a corner kick in the 39th minute.  The AU attack lasted another two minutes before Taylor cashed in on Jennings pass. 

Jennings had a chance to add another goal before the break but missed wide as time expired. 

The Hornets nearly tied the game off a corner kick in the 52nd minute, but Taylor Pratcher had her shot blocked by an AU defender. 

Charlene Belanger made three saves for her second straight shutout of the season. 

The Hornets finished the contest with a 10-3 edge in shots, but the Eagles' lone shot on target was the most important.
