Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Kelly Donovan scored for American University in the third minute, but UMBC was able to turn offensive pressure and a pair of quick goals near halftime to earn a 2-1 women's soccer win over the Eagles at Reeves Field on Sunday.
The loss dropped AU to 1-3 on the season, while the Retrievers improved to 1-2-1.

Charlene Belanger had a huge save in the 11th minute to keep the Eagles ahead. On a UMBC corner, Karen Aye found Amanda Dailey in front for a header, and Belanger dived and punched away the dangerous shot.
The Retrievers finally hit the scoreboard with 13.7 seconds left in the first half. Gabby Boehmer picked up a loose ball in the box and booted home a shot from 15 yards out to even the score.
UMBC struck quickly again just 46 seconds into the second half when Amira Walcott sent a pass from the right wing that Bria Bass converted into a goal.
The Retrievers clamped down defensively for the remainder of the game, using a 7-1 edge in shots after halftime to preserve the win.
UMBC finished the game with a 13-8 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Jen Nance made four saves in the Retriever net, while Belanger also finished with four saves for AU.
American travels to Richmond on Friday in its next match and returns home next Sunday to face LIU-Brooklyn at noon.
