Late Goals Lift AU to First Win

Box Score

EMMITSBURG, Md. – A pair of goals in the final 4:21 lifted American University to its first victory of the season in a 2-1 triumph at Mount St. Mary's in a women's soccer game on Friday.

Taking advantage of a 21-5 edge in shots, the Eagles got late goals from Yari Bradfield and Kelly Donovan to erase a deficit and claim their first victory in three starts.

Bradfield converted a deflected ball in the middle of the box and booted home the tying marker with 4:21 to play. Alexandra Taylor picked up the assist on the play, as a pair of AU freshmen hit the scoresheet on the tally.

Just 41 seconds later, Donovan collected the ball in the penalty box and tapped a shot past Mount keeper Quinn Costello-Mays for the game-winner. Kaylee Hillard earned the assist on the final goal.
Despite an 11-1 edge in shots by AU, the teams ended the first half scoreless.

Nikki Pinto took a long pass from Jenna West through the middle of the field and Pinto beat AU goalkeeper Courtney Bembenek to put the Mountaineers (0-3) ahead with 15:14 left to play.

Bembenek, playing her first game of the season in the Eagle net, made three saves in earning the win.

American finished the match with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles return to Reeves Field in D.C. on Sunday when they host UMBC at noon.
