Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The American University women's soccer team held Navy to one goal in the opening 45 minutes, but the Midshipmen added five more in the second half to advance to the Patriot League Semifinals with a 6-0 win on Tuesday evening.
AU completes the season with a 5-11-3 record. Navy improves to 11-6-4 and will meet Bucknell on Friday in Boston, Mass.
"I'm proud of the team for reaching their goal to get to the tournament," said head coach Anabel Hering. "The showing wasn't characteristic of us or what we hoped for."
The Midshipmen finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks.
Playing in her final game as a member of the Eagles, senior keeper Charlene Belanger made two saves. Navy keeper Dayton Wetherby also made two saves before Taygan Grundy played the final 25 minutes.
Juniors Marley Jennings, Hayley Mullens and freshman Alexandra Taylor recorded shots for the Eagles.
"We are happy with the progress from last season and the potential for this group moving forward," said Hering.
Navy was led by Ash Fairow with a pair of goals. Clare MacAdam, Eleanor Pratt and Nat Dzhandzhapanyan and Courtney Mason also scored for the Midshipmen.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on Fairow's first tally. Lizzy Rullan and Dzhandzhapanyan were credited with the assists off a one-timer and a cross.
Navy scored its second goal 46 seconds into the second half on a shot to the far post by MacAdam.
The Midshipmen then added two goals in the span of 53 seconds by Fairow and Dzhandzhapanyan.
Navy tacked on two more goals late in the contest by Mason and Pratt.
