WASHINGTON — Senior Kelly Donovan scored the lone goal to propel the American University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Lehigh on Friday afternoon at Reeves Field. 

American improved to 5 -10-3 overall and 2-4-3 in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks fell to 7-8-3 and 2-5-2. 

"We did what we could and what we control. Now we sit back and wait," said head coach Anabel Herring. "I am happy for the seniors. They brought a great vibe and leadership to this program." 

The postseason fate of Eagles will not be determined until Halloween night, when the rest of the PL completes the regular-season schedule. If the Eagles are able to grab the sixth and final spot in the PL Tournament, their quarterfinal match will be played on the road on Tuesday evening against third-seed Navy or Loyola (Md.). 

Donovan gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute on a converted rebound off an initial shot by Kaylee Hillard. 

In the 53rd minute, junior Marley Jennings had a chance to give the Eagles a two-goal advantage, but her shot was saved by Ani Nahapetian. 

Lehigh nearly tied the contest in the 60th minute on a strong attack by leading scorer Sabrina Mertz, but the post aided AU senior keeper Charlene Belanger with the stop. 

The chances continued for the Eagles midway through the frame with attempts by Donovan in the 73rd and freshman Audrey Denkler a minute later. 

Belanger made three saves for the shutout while Nahapetian had three. 

AU finished with 11 shots and four corner kicks. Lehigh had eight shots and three corners.
