Box Score WORCESTER, MASS. — Senior Danielle Beard tied the game with 4:15 left in regulation to secure a point in the Patriot League standings for the American University women's soccer team in a 1-1 (2OT) tie with Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.
American is now 4-10-3 on the season while Holy Cross is 4-8-4. The Eagles will conclude the season on Friday against Lehigh at Reeves Field.
Despite being outshot 19-13, American tied the Crusaders with seven shots each in the second half. Holy Cross finished with a 7-1 edge in corner kick.
The game remained scoreless for the first 60 minutes until Holy Cross senior Jenna Scanlon gave the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage off a give-and-go from classmate Annie Galvin.
After the goal, American picked up the pace and pressured HC keeper Brooke Hollie. Freshman Audrey Denkler and senior Kelly Donovan had attempts that went wide of the net, but then Hollie was tested by sophomore Kylie Hillard and Donovan moments before the equalizer.
In the 86th minute, Beard sent a long ball that was bobbled by Hollie and found the back of the net to force overtime.
AU senior keeper Charlene Belanger made 10 saves in the contest and was asked to make two more in overtime. Hollie made six stops for the Crusaders including freshman JoJo Miller's shot in the second overtime.
After Miller's attempt in the 101st minute, Hillard had her attempt blocked near goal. Freshman Alexandra Taylor's attempt went high with less than two minutes remaining.
