AU's Offense Comes Alive, Downs Mount St. Mary's, 3-0

Box Score

American University women's soccer picked up its first victory of the season, with a 3-0 win over Mount St. Mary's Thursday afternoon on Reeves Field. Sophomore Michaela Garcia led the way with three points, assisting on the game-winner in the first half before netting her own in the second.

The Eagle offense found its stride early and imposed its style of play with 21 shots in the first half alone. AU outshot Mount St. Mary's 29-3 in the match.

American's game-winner came in the 39th minute as Garcia crossed one for sophomore Marley Jennings who was able to convert in traffic.

All three of the Eagles' goals came on crosses. Garcia's came deep in the box off the feed from rookie Kaylee Hillard in the 63rd minute.

Hillard did again 14 minutes later when she and senior Lindsay Muri combined to set up senior Erin Mulhern for the score from point-blank range.

AU nearly had a 4-0 victory, but had a goal called off due to offsides.

Senior Sarah Dejak and sophomore Courtney Bembenek each played a half and combined for the shutout.

The Eagles have a day off before returning to action at George Mason this Sunday.
