Kevin Tao remains in the hunt for
All-America status for the American University wrestling team at
the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships, despite dropping his
quarterfinal match-up in Session 3 on Friday afternoon.
Tao dropped a close 3-2 decision to Drake Houdashelt of Missouri
in the first tiebreaker period after registering a reversal at the
buzzer in the third period to send it to extra time. Houdashelt
came up with the escape to secure the semifinal spot.
Blake Herrin was eliminated
from the championships after falling in a 5-2 decision to
Citadel's Odie Delaney.
Tao will return to action tonight, Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
EST for his wrestleback match against eighth-seeded Nick Brascetta
of Virginia Tech.

Tao faced another unseeded wrestler in the quarterfinals, Drake
Houdashelt of Missouri. The first period was scoreless before
Houdashelt came up with the escape in the second period. The
Missouri grappler built up a riding time advantage in the third,
but Tao got the reversal at the buzzer to send it to overtime.
Sudden victory and the first tiebreaker period were scoreless.
Houdashelt was able to come up with the escape in the final period
with Tao unable to secure the winning takedown for the 3-2 loss. He
will face eighth-seeded Nick Brascetta of Virginia Tech in the
wrestlebacks tonight.
Blake Herrin – HWT
Herrin was edged in a 5-2 decision to Citadel's Odie
Delaney to close out his championship run. The bout was scoreless
in the first period and Delaney scored the first points off an
escape and takedown in the second for the 3-0 advantage. Herrin
chose neutral to start the third and was able to get the takedown.
He let Delaney up, aiming for another takedown to take the lead but
was unable to finish as he was edged, 5-2.
