Box Score

American University women's soccer took on the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament on Friday afternoon in Annapolis, Md., facing Navy on its home field, but after a scoreless first half, the Mids scored twice to end an impressive first season for head coach Anabel Jimenez Hering and the Eagles.

American (6-11-2) kept a potent Navy (15-4) offense off the board in the first half, limiting the Mids to six shots, but the Naval Academy came alive in the second, putting 17 attempts towards the AU net.

Junior goalkeeper Charlene Belanger made eight saves in the contest, but Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Morgan Dankanich would not be denied, burying a cross in the 51st minute for the game-winner. Less than two minutes later she found the back of the net again, this time on a free kick.

American continued the physical style of play that led the to the Patriot League Tournament and Semifinals for the second straight season with 15 fouls in the match, but AU could not find the back of the net against Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, Elizabeth Hoerner.

Junior forward Lindsay Muri, who led the Eagles in goals and points this season, earning All-Patriot League honors, once again led AU offensively with three shots, two on goal.
