Box Score In a Patriot League battle on Reeves Field Saturday afternoon, American University women's soccer secured its fourth conference victory of the season, maintaining its standing as a top-four league team with a 1-0 victory over Lafayette.
After a scoreless first half, junior forward Lindsay Muri notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season only six minutes into the the second half.
"It's a good win for us as we look to stay near the top of the Patriot League standings," said head coach Anabel Jimenez Hering. "We need to stay focused and keep winning games to make sure we make the conference tournament."
With just a single loss in league play this season, the Eagles improved their conference point total to 13, moving into a tie for third-place with Colgate, which AU will play in the regular season finale on November 2, in Hamilton, N.Y.
The American defense was locked in all match, limiting the Leopards to only nine shots, including just three in the final stanza.
Junior goalkeeper Charlene Belanger made three saves in the game for her fifth win and fifth shutout of the season. All five of her blank game sheets have come against Patriot League foes.
Muri's score came on an impressive individual effort as she dribbling into the box around two defenders and fired one past the Lafayette keeper for the game-winning score. Muri now has squad-high 13 points and ranks second in the Patriot League in goals and points.
The Eagles will look to keep its point-tallying ways going with a road matchup at Loyola on Wednesday, November 23, at 7 p.m., before returning to Reeves Field on Saturday, October 27 against Boston U., as AU celebrates Senior Day.
