Jasmine Mohandesi scored her second goal in as many matches to give the American University women's soccer team a lead at George Mason on Wednesday night, but the Patriots rallied to earn the 2-1 overtime win.

Mohandesi's strike came in the 11th minute on a corner kick opportunity for American (0-2-1). On a similar play that netted a goal on Sunday at St. Joseph's, Nicole Paviglionite fed her corner kick to Michelle Montilio, who found Mohandesi for the goal.

The Eagles took a 1-0 advantage into the second half, although George Mason (1-1-0) leveled the match with a 70th minute score by Kelly Pizzingrilli. The match remained even through the 90 regulation minutes before George Mason's Tiana Kallenberger knocked home the game-winner in the 96th minute.

"I thought we possessed the ball very well and again scored off a corner kick, which was great," Head Coach Dave Bucciero said. "We competed well and played with a lot of effort, but we need to learn to defend better in key moments. Overall, I think we have a good team but we need to learn to do a little bit more to win games."

George Mason held a 17-7 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. AU registered five corner kicks compared to four for the Patriots.

Carleigh Morba led the Eagles with three shots, all of which were on target. Mohandesi added two while Paviglionite and Brenna Smith each had one. Meanwhile, in goal for AU, Charlene Belanger made seven saves.

American will close out its four-match season-opening roadtrip this Saturday, August 25 at UMBC. Kick time is slated for 1 p.m.
