Box Score Jasmine Mohandesi recorded the lone goal of the afternoon as the American University women's soccer team blanked Delaware State, 1-0, Sunday in Dover, Del.
Mohandesi's unassisted strike came in the 49th minute on a shot from 10 yards out as it was deflected by a Delaware State defender in front of the goal. For Mohandesi, the goal is her second of the season, giving her a team-leading seven points in 2011 for American (3-5-1).
"It was a tremendous effort by our team and I am proud for the way they fought today," Head Coach Dave Bucciero said. "We were coming off a tough game on Friday and I knew it would be difficult to come here and win it. It took a strong effort from everyone to get this win."
The Eagles held an 8-4 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 margin in the second half. Goalkeeper Klare Lazor recorded three saves to earn her second-career shutout.
AU will travel to Loyola (Md.) for a midweek non-conference matchup this Wednesday, September 21 at 5 p.m. American will then open up a three-match homestand, beginning this Saturday, September 24 against Richmond at 3 p.m. The Eagles will then face George Washington on Monday, September 26 to close out non-conference play. Both home matches next weekend will be available on Eagles Vision TV.
