Box Score Lehigh's Leah Kulp struck in the 59th minute and her goal proved to be the difference in the Mountain Hawks' 1-0 victory over the American University women's soccer team Friday evening in Bethlehem, Pa.
The unassisted goal by Kulp came on a shot from the top of the goalbox as it slid by AU goalkeeper Klare Lazor into the top-right portion of the goal. American (4-9-1, 0-2-0 PL) outshot Lehigh (5-5-1, 1-1-0 PL) in the match by a 10-8 margin, which included a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal, but the Eagles were unable to find the equalizer down the stretch.
Individually, Katarina Kingston led the AU attack with a game-high three shots, two of which were on target. Arianna Efstathiou and Lazor split the match in goal as the duo registered a combined four saves.
"It was a tough game tonight," commented Head Coach Dave Bucciero. "I thought we defended better in the second half and they scored on their only chance in the half. We didn't generate enough tonight and we need to do better if we are going to win on Sunday."
The Eagles will remain in the Lehigh Valley to face Lafayette this Sunday, October 9. Game time from Easton, Pa., is set for 1 p.m.
