The American University women's soccer team ended its season in style with a 1-0 victory at Colgate Saturday evening in Hamilton, N.Y. The Eagles handed Colgate its first conference loss of the season after the Raiders had been unbeaten in their first six conference contests.

"We played our best game of the season tonight," remarked Head Coach Dave Bucciero. "Hannah Tatro, Kimberly Kroll, Michelle Montilio, and Klare Lazor were absolutely fantastic. Colgate is a very good team with some fantastic attacking players. To shut them out, you have to play great and I thought we did."

American (6-11-2, 2-4-1 PL) registered the lone goal of the match in the 62nd minute when  Montilio struck for her third goal of the season. On the play, Nicole Paviglionite played a long cross from the right wing to Montilio, who one-timed her shot into the top of the net.

Once the Eagles took a 1-0 lead, Colgate (11-5-2, 4-1-2 PL) pressured the AU defense looking for the equalizer. The Raiders' best opportunity came with under two minutes left in regulation when Alyssa Manoogian fired a shot that appeared to be heading toward the back of the net. But Danielle Beard was in the perfect spot for the Eagles to record the defensive save and preserve the shutout victory over the Patriot League's highest scoring offense.

In the match, Colgate held a slight 18-16 advantage in shots, although the Eagles registered seven shots on goal compared to four for the Raiders. Lazor made three saves in goal for AU to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

The triumph marked the Eagles' first against Colgate since 2007. The Raiders had previously won the last four matchups in the series.

With the win, AU's senior class moved over .500 in Patriot League play for their careers. The Eagles have now recorded an 11-10-6 conference record over the past four seasons.
