Box Score The American University women's soccer team was defeated at
Colgate by a 1-0 final score in double overtime on Saturday night.
The loss is American's first in Patriot League play, although the
Eagles remain in a share for first place in the conference with a
3-1 record.
Colgate (6-6-3, 2-1-1) converted the game-winning goal in the
107th minute of play. Mary Segreti sent a corner kick in front of
the goal for the Raiders, where Avery Atkins was positioned
perfectly to send a header over AU goalkeeper Arianna
Efstathiou.
American (8-8, 3-1) had its best game-winning scoring
opportunity late in the first overtime period on a Kelsey
Brasher shot, which sailed just wide of the goal.
In the match, the Eagles outshot Colgate, 18-12, and held an
11-7 advantage in shots on goal. Brasher and Kristin
Piorun led American with three shots apiece, while
Patricia
Bailey, Erin
Koch, Jasmine
Mohandesi and Erin
Stebbins each recorded two shots.
Efstathiou made six saves in the match, and lowered her season
goals against average to 0.94.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend with a key
Patriot League road weekend. On Friday, October 23, American
travels to Lafayette at 7 p.m. before facing Lehigh on Sunday,
October 25 at 1 p.m.
