Led by Brendan Fennell, Men's XC Dominates Navy Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The American University men's cross country team took four of the top five places in Saturday's Navy Invitational race won by Brendan Fennell, easily winning the men's team competition. The women's cross country team took fourth overall in their race, led by the seventh-place finish of junior Kate Lilley.

Fennell broke away from the pack in the middle of the rest and maintained a 60 yard cushion to the finish. Conor Lanz took second in a quick 25:00 followed by the resurgent performances of Awit Yohannes who was fourth in 25:10 and Dan Beardslee who took fifth in 25:14. Steve Hallinan closed out the Eagles scorers in eighth place at 25:48 followed by Brian McCabe at 25:58 and Carlos Jamieson at 26:19. Full team scores and individual results are not yet available.

The women's team took fourth overall led by Lilley's seventh-place finish in 23:34. Sophomore Megan Mason was 14th in 24:07 followed by junior Cathleen Ford in 19th at 24:29. Freshmen Mercedes Ball (42nd, 25:24) and Danielle Loughrey (47th, 25:36) rounded out the Eagles' scorers.

American has a few weeks off before returning to competition at the Bill Dellinger Invite and George Mason Invite, the weekend of Sept. 30.
