RICHMOND, Va. - American University played
Virginia Commonwealth to a draw for the first 60 minutes of the
game, but eventually the Rams scored twice to earn the 2-0 victory.
The Eagles were outshot 19-5 by VCU, but Lauren Wohl (Bel Air,
Md./Bel Air/Bucknell) played very well, picking up ten saves.
Sophomore Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in
Boblingen) led AU's offense with three shots while Anabel Jimenez
(Kensington, Md./Bullis) had one great shot on goal at 72:47.
Freshman Jenna Abbondi (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) hit the post
with her shot at 53:08. Statistically, the Rams had an advantage in
shots (19-5), corners (4-2) and fouls (14-6). VCU goalie Chrissy
Lloyd only had one save, stopping Jimenez' shot at 72:47. AU will
next play at home against Holy Cross on Saturday, September 27, at
1 p.m. It will be the first Patriot League game of the year for
American, while Holy Cross opened with a 1-0 loss to Army. Scoring:
