Sept. 10, 2003
WASHINGTON - American University sophomore
Marcela Ricupero (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Academia Cotopaxi) scored AU's
only goal of the game after receiving a pass from senior Anabel
Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis). Ricupero headed the ball into the
back of the net at the 86:58 mark. The Eagles had plenty of chances
versus the Colonials as they were outshot by just one, 14-13.
However, several of AU's best opportunities were just off goal.
Freshman Arya Hariharan (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock North) created
a couple of outstanding chances for herself, but could not convert.
Junior Maha Elnabawi (Herndon, Va./Oakton) had three shots on goal,
but was also turned away. Freshman Alison Doyle (Tampa, Fla./Tampa
Catholic) made her third straight start in the net and played well
early with a pair of solid saves. She finished with two saves on
nine shots. Lauren Wohl (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air/Bucknell) played the
last 21 minutes of the game and picked up two saves on five shots.
AU will next play at home against Loyola on Saturday, September 13,
at 1:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be away, but a
problem with Loyola's turf mandated the change. Scoring: GW - Kim
