EMMITSBURG, Md. - American University's Marcela
Ricupero (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Academia Cotopaxi) took a pass from
Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) in the penalty box and
deftly kicked it behind her into the right corner of the net for
the lone goal of the game. Jimenez had created the opening by
taking the ball down the left side of the field, and then kicking
it into the goal area. The game was delayed by 45 minutes after a
thunderstorm went went through the area. However, the delay did not
slow the Eagles down offensively as they outshot the Mount 10 to
five in the opening half. Jimenez had four shots in the game while
Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen)
took three shots. Freshman Christina Gonzalez (Valley Stream,
N.Y./Valley Stream Central) started the game and had a pair of
shots on goal. Senior Lauren Wohl (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air/Bucknell)
started for the Eagles in goal and notched two saves. Freshman
Alison Doyle started the second period and picked up one save.
Doyle faced heavy pressure in the last five minutes of the game,
including a penaly kick with five seconds left in the game, and
responded very well in her first varsity game. AU will next play at
Virginia Tech on Tuesday, September 2, at 7:00 p.m. Scoring: AU -
