LEWISBURG, Pa. - American University senior
Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) scored two goals and
assisted on AU's other score as she led the Eagles to a 3-0 victory
over Bucknell. With the win, American now leads the Patriot League
with 15 points. They are 5-1 in league play and 8-6-1 overall.
Jimenez got things going early when she found freshman Christina
Gonzalez (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) open near the
goal in the 17th minute. Jimenez delivered a perfect cross, and
Gonzalez neatly tipped it pass the Bucknell goalie. The Eagles
posted an 8-4 edge in shots in the first half, but neither team
could get another score. However, Jimenez struck at 64:20 when she
took advantage of a beautiful corner kick by Simone Konig
(Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen). Konig had
three shots on the day, with two being on goal. Jimenez finished up
the scoring when she dribbled in on the right side and put it in on
the far side of the net. It is the third time this season Jimenez
has had at least five points. She had five against Youngstown
State, and seven versus Navy. She has 10 goals on the season, tying
her mark of last year. It is the seventh-best single-season in AU
history. Her 28 points is the sixth best single-season. Lauren Wohl
(Bel Air, Md./Bel Air/Bucknell) made a triumphant return to
Bucknell. After spending her first two years at the school, she
transferred to AU, and this afternoon she posted her fourth shutout
of the season. She finished with two saves and faced five shots.
Bucknell's Samantha Hecht had seven saves on 14 shots.
Statistically the Eagles dominated. They held a 14-5 advantage in
shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. American will next play at
Georgetown on Wednesday, October 29 at 2 p.m. Scoring: AU -
