WASHINGTON - For the second consecutive game
Marcela Ricupero (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Academia Cotopaxi) got the
American University offense going by scoring the first goal of the
game. Ricupero finished with two goals and an assist, as she led
the Eagles to a 4-2 victory over Lafayette College. Ricupero scored
her first goal at 12:39, when she grabbed a pass from Amy Muller
(Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and snuck it past the Lafayette
keeper from short range. It remained a one-goal game for another 32
minutes when Muller scored with just two seconds left in the first
half. The play began when AU's Lena Winkler (Denver, Colo./St.
Mary's Academy) took a corner kick. Muller collected the ball, and
knocked it into the back of the net. It was the first goal of
Muller's career, and the defender also picked up her first yellow
card of the season. American pushed it to a three-goal lead when
Ricupero received a pass from Simone Konig (Gartringen,
Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen) and beat one defender,
before taking her shot and scoring at 67:46. After Lafayette
finally got on the board at 75:04, the Eagles quickly responded.
Freshman Meg Runeari scored the first goal of her varsity career.
The assist was from Ricupero, and after controlling the pass,
Runeari drove to the center of the field , and shot it to the left
of the goalie. The goal came at 84:40. Lauren Wohl (Bel Air,
Md./Bel Air/Bucknell) notched three saves and faced nine shots. The
