Worcester, MA - Sophomore Maha Elnabawi (Herndon, VA/Oakton) scored her first goal of the season, but it was not enough, as the Eagles lost on the road to the Crusaders of Holy Cross, 5-1. It was just a two-goal lead for Holy Cross (3-1) late in the game, but they scored on two breakaways with less than three minutes to play for the final margin. It was the season-opener for AU in Patriot League play.
Elnabawi took five shots on the afternoon and scored her goal unassisted after a scramble in front of the goal. She booted it into the bottom right corner of the net. Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) took a pair of shots for AU while Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latrobe Area/Bucknell) and Simone Konig (Gartingen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen) each had one attempt on net.
In her third start goalkeeper Lauren Wohl (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air/Bucknell) notched two saves and faced 11 shots in the game.
HC was led by Brandy Ault (Sykesville, Md.), who had two goals and one assist. Kathleen Kerigan (Big Flats, NY) added two late goals to seal the game for the Crusaders.
American (3-6-1/0-1-0) will next play at home versus Colgate on October 5.
